Construction Management
Participating in a P3 development project, NIACON provided design assistance and construction management for this very high-profile exciting structure. A new 110 foot long pedestrian bridge was semi-constructed off-site, trucked to its location, and erected with two very large mobile cranes to minimize impact on the Casino operations. This pedestrian bridge accommodates the transfer of 5000 pedestrians between three facilities above a municipal roadway, Fallsview Blvd. The contemporary design suspension structure with it semi-frameless glass enclosure is environmentally controlled with heating and air conditioning, was designed and constructed to reflect LEED principle, and is accessible as outlined in AODA. Located at the main entrance of the Fallsview Casino, this new bridge links the Hilton Hotel guests with the Casino. Due to the high traffic and pedestrian volume, maintaining public safety, obeying noise constraints, and ensuring flow of traffic were challenges that were successfully accomplished by the management and construction team. A five-storey addition to the front façade of the mid-tower of the Hilton Hotel was also required to accommodate the new installation of the pedestrian bridge. Interior renovation such as selective demolition, structural, interior finishes, mechanical, electrical scopes, were implemented to the five-storey addition creating a new interior corridor between the Hilton Hotel, the Niagara Falls Entertainment Centre (new theatre) and the Fallsview Casino. Interconnection of life safety, audio and security systems between three interconnected facilities was also required.
